Is Your Toilet Acting Up?
A toilet that runs constantly, won’t flush properly, or leaks at the base isn’t just annoying—it’s wasting water and money. A running toilet can waste 200 gallons of water per day, adding hundreds to your water bill. A leak at the base can damage your subfloor and create conditions for mold growth.
Valmont Build & Mechanical Group repairs all types of toilet problems throughout Kissimmee, Orlando, and Central Florida. Our licensed plumbers (License #CFC1434208) diagnose the issue accurately and fix it right the first time. Most toilet repairs can be completed in a single visit, often in under an hour.
Not sure if your toilet needs repair or replacement? We’ll give you an honest assessment. If a $150 repair will solve the problem, we’ll tell you. If the toilet is beyond reasonable repair, we’ll explain why replacement makes more sense—and give you options.
What Toilet Problems Can You Fix?
Toilets are relatively simple machines, but they can fail in frustrating ways. Here are the most common toilet problems we repair:
💧 Running Toilet
The most common complaint—and one of the biggest water wasters. Usually caused by a faulty flapper, fill valve, or overflow tube. We diagnose the cause and replace the worn components to stop the running.
🚽 Weak or Incomplete Flush
When the toilet doesn’t clear the bowl completely or requires multiple flushes. Often caused by clogged rim jets, low water level, flapper closing too soon, or partial drain blockage.
🔧 Clogged Toilet
When a plunger won’t clear it, you need professional help. We use toilet augers and, when necessary, remove the toilet to clear stubborn blockages—including toys, wipes, and other items that shouldn’t be flushed.
💦 Leaking at the Base
Water pooling around the toilet base usually indicates a failed wax ring seal. This needs prompt attention—sewage water leaking onto your floor is a health hazard and can damage the subfloor.
👻 Phantom Flushing
When the toilet seems to flush by itself or you hear it refilling randomly. This happens when water slowly leaks from the tank into the bowl—typically a flapper or flush valve problem.
🔩 Rocking or Loose Toilet
A toilet that wobbles when you sit on it needs immediate attention. Loose bolts, broken flange, or deteriorated subfloor are common causes. Rocking breaks the wax seal and leads to leaks.
🛢️ Tank Leaking to Bowl or Floor
Water leaking between the tank and bowl, or from the tank to the floor. Usually caused by worn tank-to-bowl gaskets, loose tank bolts, or a cracked tank. We repair or replace components as needed.
⚠️ Toilet Won’t Flush at All
When nothing happens when you push the handle—or the handle is loose and floppy. Usually a broken lift chain, disconnected flapper, or failed flush handle mechanism. Quick fix once diagnosed.
⏱️ Slow Tank Refill
Tank takes forever to refill after flushing. Often caused by a partially closed supply valve, clogged fill valve, or low water pressure. We identify and fix the restriction.
🔊 Strange Noises
Whistling, humming, gurgling, or banging sounds during or after flushing. Could indicate fill valve issues, venting problems, or water hammer. We diagnose the noise and eliminate it.
What Toilet Components Do You Repair or Replace?
Most toilet problems come down to a handful of components. We repair and replace all internal and external toilet parts:
Tank Components
- Flappers
- Fill valves (ballcock)
- Flush valves
- Overflow tubes
- Tank levers/handles
- Lift chains
- Float assemblies
- Tank bolts & gaskets
Bowl & Base Components
- Wax rings
- Wax-free seals
- Closet flanges
- Closet bolts
- Tank-to-bowl gaskets
Supply & Connections
- Supply lines
- Shutoff valves
- Fill valve connections
- Angle stops
We carry common parts on our trucks for immediate repairs. For less common toilets or specialty parts, we may need to source parts and return—we’ll let you know upfront.
How Does Toilet Repair Work?
Here’s what to expect when you call Valmont for toilet repair:
How Much Does Toilet Repair Cost?
Toilet repair costs depend on what’s wrong and the parts needed. Here are typical ranges for the Kissimmee and Orlando area:
Note: These are typical ranges—your actual cost depends on your specific toilet and situation. We provide exact pricing after diagnosis, before any work begins. No surprises.
When Should You Replace Instead of Repair?
We’re not going to push a new toilet if a simple repair will solve your problem. But sometimes replacement genuinely makes more sense:
- Repair cost approaches replacement cost — If you need multiple parts replaced and the total exceeds 50-60% of a new toilet, replacement usually makes more sense.
- Cracks in the porcelain — Cracks in the tank or bowl can’t be reliably repaired. They’ll eventually leak or fail completely.
- Repeated problems — If you’re calling for repairs every few months, the toilet is telling you it’s time.
- Old, water-wasting model — Toilets made before 1994 use 3.5-7 gallons per flush. A new 1.28 GPF toilet pays for itself in water savings.
- Parts no longer available — Older or discontinued toilets may have unavailable parts, making repair impossible or very expensive.
- Constant clogging — Some older low-flow toilets (especially early 1990s models) just don’t flush well. Newer designs work much better.
We’ll give you an honest recommendation. If repair makes sense, we’ll fix it. If replacement is the better long-term value, we’ll explain why and can handle the installation.
